BISMARCK, N.D. — A longtime medical professional in the North Dakota National Guard will retire Feb. 9 after more than 30 years of military service during a ceremony at Raymond J. Bohn Armory in Bismarck.

Col. Craig Lambrecht, of Bismarck, joined the N.D. Army National Guard in 1983 as a second lieutenant. He has served in a number of roles in the Guard’s State Medical Detachment, including physician, flight surgeon, deputy commander, and commander. In 1995, he was appointed as the N.D. Guard’s state surgeon, a position held until his retirement. As the state surgeon, he has been responsible for overseeing medical training for all members of the N.D. Army National Guard.
In 2004 and again in 2006, Lambrecht served overseas in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in Iraq. While there, he served as the senior medical officer and field surgeon for a troop medical clinic southeast of Baghdad. In those roles, he was responsible for the medical care of multi-national coalition forces and contract workers, as well as detainee care. Lambrecht also helped expand and improve services at the Smith Gate Burn Clinic for pediatric burn patients across Iraq.
In his civilian profession, Lambrecht is the president of Sanford Health’s West Region in Bismarck. He is originally from Wishek, N.D.
