Afghan police, NDS officials detain insurgent, seize weapons caches

LOGAR PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Afghan Local Police and National Directory of Security officials detained a key Haqqani Network member and seized three weapons caches Jan. 18 during a security patrol in Mohamed Agha district’s Zhargun Shar village.

The security forces captured Kour Ranhman supporting Afghan officials’ plan to purge insurgent activity from the district. Ranhman, is suspected of having connections to Qari Burhan a senior level leader accused of orchestrating various crimes in the region, said a NDS official.

ALP found 10 grenades, 10 uniforms, rocket-propelled grenades, an assault rifle, ammunition and various improvised explosive device material. According to the official, the patrol found the caches in three separate locations.

In the past week, Afghan National Security Forces efforts to stabilize security in Zhargun Shar have resulted in 16 Taliban fighters killed and four others wounded.
