BAHGRAM PROVINCE, Afghanistan - Afghan Commandos discovered a weapons cache during a clearing operation Jan. 10 near Bati Kot district, Nangarhar province to disrupt insurgent activity in the Charhar Deh and Meshwani villages.
Commandos of the 1st Special Operation Kandak found five AK-47s, one rocket-propelled grenade launcher with six rounds and two sniper rifles.
In the past, insurgents have used Bati Kot to smuggle weapons and ammunition and to launch attacks along the province’s Highway 7, reported the commandos.
District Gov. Haji Ghalib believes that operations conducted by Afghan National Security Forces, like the Commandos, are integral in assisting with security efforts in the area. Something he hopes will continue.
The capability and effectiveness of the ANSF has progressed to the point they now conduct most of their operations independently, improving security and defeating the insurgency with little assistance.
Two operations in September forced many insurgents to flee the area as ANSF continued to maintain pressure against insurgents in the district.
