GHAZNI PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Afghan National Army Special Forces led a clearing operation to assist ANA forces Jan. 7 establishing a new local police checkpoint in Ghazni province’s Andar district.

ANASF patrolled parts of Andar to Giro district, securing the region and allowing the 203rd ANA Corps to complete the Jelga Bridge checkpoint.

“The checkpoint will further secure the Andar and Giro border, prevent insurgent activity, and provide increased security for [road projects],” said Nasir Ali, an ANASF commander.

An ANA explosive ordinance disposal unit found and destroyed an improvised explosive device during the operation.

Ali strongly believes the Government of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, or GIRoA, earned the people’s trust by building and securing the ALP checkpoint, saying operations like this will also help achieve a successful upcoming presidential election.
