Fan Fest allows Semper Fi Bowl Attendees to learn about Marine Corps

CARSON, Calif. - Local Marines set up vehicles and booths for Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl attendees to learn more about the Marine Corps as part of the Fan Fest before the bowl game at The StubHub Center in Carson, Calif., Jan. 5, 2014.

Marines from Battery O, 5th Battalion, 14th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, set up an M-777 Howitzer and other vehicles while Marines with 12th Marine Corps District’s enhanced area canvassing team set up a pull-up bar and gave out prizes.

“I love it,” said James Norton, a bowl attendee and Valley Village, Calif., native. “It’s awesome to see all this stuff here and to see all these military guys walking around.”

These stations offer attendees a chance to learn about Marine Corps assets and opportunities that are available to them in the Marine Corps.

“These are always enjoyable when we have a lot of civilians asking several questions,” said Sgt. Kurtis Derby, a section leader with O Battery and Fort Worth, Texas, native. “I love doing these events.”

Derby went on to say that these events allow people to see that the Marine Corps is bigger than just the infantry and that there are many other jobs available to them.
