GHAZNI PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Afghan Local Police killed four Taliban fighters and wounded another Dec. 29 when insurgents attacked their security checkpoint in Ab Band district, Ghazni Province.

About 40 fighters attacked the Landeh Kheyl village checkpoint late at night using small-arms fire and rocket-propelled grenades. The attack confirmed reports, gathered by Afghan National Security Forces, indicating that Taliban in the area were planning to carry out a complex assault against the ALP.

ALP Commander Taj Mohammad said his men were prepared for the attack. With the support of the Afghan Uniformed Police, they were able to repel the attack, killing four of the attackers and wounding one in the process.

Afghan National Security Forces continue to hold key population centers and lines of communication in rural areas of Afghanistan.

There were no ALP casualties during the firefight.
