PARWAN PROVINCE, Afghanistan - Afghan Local Police killed two Taliban fighters and wounded another during a firefight Dec. 3 near Mandikol village, Koh-e-Safi district, said Deputy Gov. Shawali Shaheed.

“ALP was attacked by Taliban insurgents,” said Shaheed. “But because of their actions they were able kill two Taliban. The ALP has been enhancing security in Koh-e Safi and continues to be a vital part of Afghan National Security Forces and the Afghan government’s security efforts.”

Afghan Local Police complement counterinsurgency efforts by providing security support to rural areas with limited Afghan National Security Forces presence.

Last month, Koh-e-Safi ALP stopped a roadside bomb attack when they discovered a weapons cache during a clearing operation in Pacha Khak village.

No civilians were injured during either operation.

Assuming full security responsibility clearly demonstrates that progress in Afghanistan is real and tangible. Afghan National Security Forces continue to grow in capacity, confidence, and capability every day.
