JGSDF's chief of staff receives honors at Camp Zama, Japan, during first visit

CAMP ZAMA, Japan - Japan Ground Self-Defense Force Chief of Staff Gen. Kiyohumi Iwata visited U.S. Army Japan and I Corps (Forward) headquarters at Camp Zama, Japan, Nov. 19 for the first time since becoming chief of staff Aug. 27.

During his visit, Iwata received a briefing on the comprehensive capabilities of USARJ and its command center. He also attended an office call with USARJ and I Corps (Forward) Commanding General Maj. Gen. James C. Boozer Sr. and his staff, and visited the Brig. Gen. Crawford F. Sams U.S. Army Health Clinic to receive a tour and briefing on its mission, capability and resiliency program.

He also spent some time with the JGSDF's Central Readiness Force command and staff collocated on Camp Zama and attended a luncheon to honor nine JGSDF members attending Cooperative Working Group class 70, who are working side-by-side with U.S. Army counterparts to learn more about the Army's mission to the Japan-U.S. alliance and to practice their English.
