NANGARHAR PROVINCE, Afghanistan- Afghan commandos detained three suspected insurgents following a clearing operation in Achin district, Nov.11.

Commandos from 1st Special Operations Kandak apprehended the insurgents as a result of questioning a group of men.

“We conducted clearing operations here to eliminate the insurgents’ activities and take back the places under Taliban control,” said 1st SOK Commander Lt. Col. Mussoud Stanakzai. “We have secured this area so that people can live peacefully and safely.”

The goal of the operation was to disrupt insurgent activity along Highway 7 by stopping drugs trafficking along the district’s main road that leads to Kabul.

“I am proud of my commandos and how they conduct missions,” said 1st SOK executive officer Maj. Hazar Amiri. “They are well-trained and always prepared. We respect our people and try our best to demonstrate that we are always here for them.”

In the past few weeks, Afghan National Security Forces conducted four operations in the area and encouraged the local populace to fight against insurgents at the tribal level.

Afghan National Army commandos are an elite group that conducts high-risk operations in remote areas known to be enemy strongholds. These counterinsurgency missions assist national and local police in their efforts to increase security, governance and development.

The detainees are in custody of National Directorate of Security officials.
