WHEELER ARMY AIRFIELD, Hawaii – Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 25th Combat Aviation Brigade, 25th Infantry Division, hosted its annual Trunk-or-Treat on Wheeler Army Airfield, Oct. 25.

The Family Readiness Group organized the event to bring Soldiers and their families closer together and allow the children to enjoy a ghost and ghoul filled evening event.

Anxious and sugar-starved trick-or-treaters lined up to receive and consume endless amounts of candy kicking off the Trunk-or-Treat. The event also featured carnival games, plenty of food, and a cotton candy machine, a dentist’s worst nightmare.

The family-friendly event was made possible through items and equipment available from past FRG events, donations, and funds from the organization.

Children came in dressed as their favorite superheroes, cartoon character, or movie stars.

For 16-month-old Esme Chong, daughter of Sgt. Jeffrey Chong and Ester Guerrero, this year’s event marked the first time she could enjoy Halloween to the fullest.

“Last year she was too young to walk,” Guerrero said. “Now that she is able to walk around, she can really enjoy Halloween.”

Dressed up as a little princess, she was seen throughout the event wandering around, escorted by her parents, enjoying her sweet treat of cotton candy.

Parents and soldiers matched their little ones Halloween spirits’ and dressed as pirates, Greek gods and goddesses, and their own favorite superheroes as they were Trunk-or-Treating alongside their children.

Caroline Eaton, HHC FRG leader, said this was one of the first events the unit has held, since her husband, Capt. Dodger Eaton, HHC commander, took command. It provided herself and other family members the perfect opportunity to meet and greet one another.

“It was a nice way to get everyone out here,” said Eaton. “Also, it’s a safe way for the kids to have fun and Halloween.”

The occasion was highlighted with a contest awarding the family with the most festive car trunk.

Sgt. Rosa Farios-Rios and her family’s trunk featured a fog machine, a remote-controlled spider, and a Halloween-themed disco ball awarding them free movie tickets and the Most Festive Car Trunk winner.
