DILI, Timor-Leste - Seabee divers from Underwater Construction Team (UCT) Two begin construction on a rubble mound breakwater in Timor-Leste's Dili Harbor to provide sheltered small boat storage for Timor-Leste's Maritime Police Unit.
Construction of the breakwater is a joint effort, utilizing members of Timor-Leste's Defense force to operate heavy equipment, the MPU to prepare the site for construction, rock from local quarries, equipment from Australia's Defence Cooperation Program and a Seabee detachment from Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 3.
"The support we've received so far has been nothing short of phenomenal," said UCT Two's officer in charge, Chief Adam Winters. "From the warm reception we received from the MPU and the impressive skills of the Timor-Leste Defense Force equipment operators to the support of the local Australian Defence Cooperation Program crew, I couldn't be more impressed."
Members of UCT Two's Construction Dive Detachment Bravo (CDDB) are projected to complete their work on the pier in early January. Timor-Leste is CDDB's last stop during a six-month deployment across the Pacific.
