What is your mission here?
To serve as the authority for granting access, issuing controlled dots and out processing personnel with dots. I also issue all Defense Biometrics Identification System (DBIDS) access badges for all foreign military and contractors requiring access to the base. I also process all assigned personnel to this base into DBIDS.
What are some of the best parts of your mission?
Having the ability to interact with all U.S. Air Force, sister services, and coalition forces assigned to "The Rock."
What are some of the challenges you face while conducting your mission, and how do you overcome them?
The language barrier between foreign military members and me is the biggest obstacle. I overcome this by utilizing interpreters.
How does your job differ in a deployed environment vs. home base?
My responsibilities here provide me the opportunity to have a more positive interaction with base populace.
How many times have you deployed?
This makes three. I've been deployed to Camp Bucca, Iraq; Shindand Air Base, Afghanistan; and here.
What makes this deployment unique?
This deployment has provided me the ability to interact and see the culture in a friendlier environment. My previous deployments when I interacted with local nationals it was in an "outside the wire setting" conducting counterinsurgency operations.
Why did you join the Air Force?
To explore the world and to open different opportunities that were not available in my hometown.
