MARINE CORPS AIR STATION MIRAMAR, Calif. – While the halls of Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 165’s hangar maybe quiet and dark during the unit’s deployment, there is still at least one person bringing cheer to its members and families.
By doing things such as coordinating family nights and holiday parties for the squadron, Sarah Weber, a command team advisor and a family readiness assistant with VMM-165 aboard Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, Calif., spent the past year giving back to the unit in every way she can.
“I just enjoy volunteering,” she said. “I don’t want anything out of it, I just want to help. There’s no gain for me other than personal satisfaction; it’s mostly that I want to give back as much as I can!”
As a command team advisor, Weber does just that, advising the commanding officer, executive officer and family readiness officer on all matters concerning the Marines’ homefront and relaying ideas for the squadron’s families.
“They ask me my input on things that the junior families need or their concerns and things like that,” she said. “When they asked me to participate, I was honored to do it because they care about what I [think]. They ask me for my opinion a lot and I’m able to be very honest with them. I’m able to voice opinions that may be mine or may be someone else’s.”
At home, her husband, Lance Cpl. Adam Weber, a flight equipment technician with VMM-165 and a Richmond, Ky. native, benefits from her upbeat attitude, which helps him get the job done.
“I’m positive, so my husband stays positive,” said Weber. “I push him to do better in everything he does, whether it’s just him doing something small to something bigger. He comes home to a positive environment, so he’s going to go into work a little bit brighter as opposed to going in negatively.”
Just like the committed and engaged leaders around 3rd MAW, Weber knows her time spent is not about her- it’s about the other spouses in the VMM-165 community.
“They do come to me for a lot because I know my resources well, I know the squadron in and out and I’m able to give them an answer or find it out really quickly,” she said. “I try to stay positive in any situation.”
