CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. - Marines and sailors with Combat Logistics Battalion 2, Combat Logistics Regiment 2, 2nd Marine Logistics Group took to the streets in the rain for a conditioning hike here Oct. 10, but they were not alone.
As the battalion stepped onto River Road, Marines and sailors with Combat Logistics Regiment 25, 2nd MLG came up behind them during a regimental run.
“Having units out there and training side by side motivates [service members],” said Sgt. Maj.Charmalyn Pile, the sergeant major of CLB-2. “They’re out there getting some and we’re out there getting some. Even though we’re a different battalion and a different regiment, we still share the same bonds and experiences, and I definitely think it motivated them.”
The motivation did not come without friendly rivalry, however. Some service members called out words of encouragement while others engaged in cordial banter.
“We don’t do regimental runs,” shouted one service member with CLB-2 as CLR-25 ran by. “We’re warfighters.”
The Marines and sailors with CLR-25 may have finished their run before the members of CLB-2 ended their approximately 3.8-mile, hour-long hike, but that gave the battalion more room to complete its mission: teambuilding.
“The purpose of the hike is to build morale and esprit de corps, and to make sure the Marines stay in shape and stay motivated,” said Gunnery Sgt. Luciany B. Moise, the operations chief for CLB-2. “[Conditioning hikes] are there to help the Marines, especially [new Marines], build camaraderie and stay in shape.”
The battalion recently returned from the Integrated Training Exercise in Twentynine Palms, Calif., and has a mostly-new command staff, including the commanding officer, sergeant major and company commanders.
“We’ve got a really new battalion,” said Pile, a Grants Pass, Ore., native. “We’re kind of starting from scratch. We’re starting to do those things that are going to bring the command up and get us working together.”
