Outstanding servicemembers receive monthly award

CAMP LEMONIER, Djibouti -- An awards ceremony was held in the New Cantina July 12 for service members who were selected by their senior enlisted leadership for a "job well done" during the month of June.

The service members honored for the month of June include: Soldier of the Month (Army), Spc. Marie G. Leon; NCO of the Month (Army), Sgt. Clifton Strayer; Airman of the Month, Senior Airman Amber Cortes; NCO of the Month, Air Force Staff Sgt. Oscar Renneker; Junior Sailor of the Month, Petty Officer 3rd Class Fatau Morou; Senior Sailor of the Month, Petty Officer 1st Class Cedric Polk; Junior Sailor of the Quarter, Petty Officer 3rd Class Shina Philibert; Senior Sailor of the Quarter, Petty Officer 2nd Class Abran Gonzales; Marine of the Month, Lance Cpl. Richardo Avila; NCO of the Month (Marine Corps), Cpl. Mark Vozka.

"Hooah," said Spc. Marie G. Leon, Delta Company, First Battalion 294th Infantry Light. "I want to thank my leadership for recognizing me."

"This is a good motivator for younger sailors," said Petty Officer 1st Class Cedric Polk, force protection.

"My hard work has finally paid off," said Lance Cpl. Richardo Avila, 6th Provisional Security Company.

"I would like to thank my office for their support," said Senior Airman Amber Cortes, Combined Joint Task Force Horn of Africa (CJTF-HOA) Supply.

Criteria for the monthly award include leadership and job performance in primary/alternate duties such as job accomplishments, leading peers and developing subordinates. The award also highlights self-improvement, which includes personal and professional growth and camp/community involvement.
