WIESBADEN, Germany -A Germany-based paratrooper was chosen as the 2013 United States Army Europe paralegal specialist of the year at competition held here Sept. 27.

Specialist Andrew Thompson from Headquarters and Headquarters Troop, 1st Squadron (Airborne), 91st Cavalry Regiment, 173rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Airborne) competed against five other Soldiers from throughout USAREUR area in an array of events to include a physical fitness test, eight-mile ruck march, weapons assembly, land navigation, combat lifesaving, a cumulative paralegal exam and a board.

"Thompson did an outstanding job representing the brigade by winning the USAREUR paralegal of the year award," said Command Sgt. Maj. Bryan D. Barker, the 1st Sqdn senior enlisted adviser.

Thompson chose the paralegal route to get a different life experience and develop a useful skill set for the civilian world and loves the thrill of being a paratrooper, he said.

Thompson hopes to become a noncommissioned officer soon and is thinking of reenlisting to be a court reporter, all while earning an associate degree in graphic design.
