NANGARHAR PROVINCE, Afghanistan- Afghan commandos from the 1st Special Operation Kandak detained a suspected insurgent Sept. 24 in Nangarhar province’s Bati Kot district.
The three-day operation concluded Sept. 25 with the Commandos successfully clearing key areas along Highway 7, including Meshawar village.
Afghan Commandos discovered the suspected insurgent after questioning numerous men in the village. The suspect turned himself in peacefully after admitting his participation in insurgent activity.
“I am very proud of my commandos and how they conducted this mission,” said Afghan commando Maj. Hazar Amiri, 1st SOK executive officer. “Operations always have risk, and this particular area is very dangerous. But we have a strong working relationship with our other Afghan National Security Forces to ensure the safety of local residents.
“We perform all missions to the highest standard,” Amiri said. “This way we are certain that we have done everything in our power to protect our people and not cause them harm.”
Afghan commandos continued their efforts to increase security of Highway 7 with this operation, building on recent missions conducted along the highway near Torkham Gate and Jalalabad City.
The detainee was transferred to Bati Kot National Security Directorate. No civilians were injured, and there were no reported structural damages during this operation.
