TARIN KOT, Afghanistan - Brig. Gen. Mohammad Rasul Khan (Kandahari), commander 4th Brigade 205th Hero Corps was promoted from colonel by Maj. Gen. Abdul Hamid, commander 205th Hero Corps in Kandahar on Sept. 22.

A celebratory parade with the proud members of the 4th Brigade was held in the barracks at Tarin Kot on Sept. 23.

Brig. Gen. Kandahari said his promotion was because of the performance of his soldiers, non-commissioned officers and officers.

“I am confident the 4th Brigade will continue to sustain independent operations,” he said.

“We will protect the people of Uruzgan.”

Brig. Gen. Kandahari replaced Brig-Gen Zafar Khan in late 2012 and had previously served as a Kandak commander in Helmand province and the Brigade Executive Officer in Kandahar.

He assumed command of the 4th Brigade with a decade of experience in the Afghan National Army.

Brig. Gen. Kandahari is an ex-mujahedeen fighter and made his name from his success on the battlefield during the Soviet occupation.

Col. Wade Stothhart, commander Combined Team Uruzgan, attended the Tarin Kot parade and said the promotion formally recognized Brig. Gen. Kandahari’s achievements as a commander and of the 4th Brigade’s performance.

“He has developed a strong rapport with Provincial Chief of Police, Matiuallah Khan, and the Provincial Governor, Amir Mohammad Akhundzada, and is held in high regard by the people of the Province.

“Brig. Gen. Kandahari is a very effective commander which bodes well for the future of Uruzgan.”
