Evansville, Ind., native recognized for performance in Afghanistan

CAMP LEATHERNECK, Afghanistan - An Evansville, Ind., native and U.S. Marine with Combat Logistics Regiment 2, Regional Command (Southwest), received recognition for his performance and leadership since the unit’s deployment to Afghanistan in July.

Cpl. Jason Pickerill, a computer technician and air clerk with CLR-2, meritoriously pinned on the rank of corporal in front of a formation of his fellow Marines and sailors here, Sept. 2.

Pickerill, a graduate of Central High School in Evansville, received the promotion after competing against a board of his peers within the regiment. He attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island in September 2011. He later reported to Camp Lejeune, N.C., and spent more than a month training at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms, Calif., before deploying to support Operation Enduring Freedom.

While in Helmand province, Pickerill will help provide logistical support to forward-deployed Marines, U.S. allies and assist the Afghan National Security Forces in developing their own logistical capabilities.
