KABUL PROVINCE, Afghanistan- Afghan commandos with the 6th Special Operations Kandak killed an insurgent and detained two others Sept. 5 in the Yakdand village of Kabul province’s Sarobi district.

The village has a history of insurgency, and despite several successful operations there in recent years, militants found their way back. Their return was short-lived as Afghan commandos diligently rooted out the enemies of Afghanistan.

“There is still a heavy enemy presence in this region,” said Brig. Gen. Karim, command of the Afghan National Army Special Operations Command. “As commandos, we are more than willing to go into the district and clear the area of the enemy.”

Afghan commandos are an elite group that conducts high-risk operations in areas known to be enemy strongholds. Their counterinsurgency missions assist national and local police in their efforts to increase security, governance and development.

“We have a strong working relationship with our other Afghan National Security Forces,” said an Afghan commando. “We always do everything in our power to ensure the safety of innocent civilians during operations and try our best not to cause damage to mosques, schools and village clinics. We are here for the benefit of the people and value their esteem.”

No civilians were injured and there were no reported structural damages during this operation. The detainees were transferred to Sarobi district National Directorate of Security.

Previous operations conducted by Afghan National Army, with the support of National Directorate of Security, netted several caches which included rockets, mines and bomb-making components.

Afghan commandos and Afghan National Army Special Forces recently discovered several cache sites. They found Afghan National Army uniforms, bomb-making materials, weapons and ammunition. Despite the fact that this area continues to be an insurgent stronghold, 6th SOK commandos push to enable safer conditions for Kabul residents and rid the area of explosives and bomb distributors.
