LOGAR PROVINCE, Afghanistan- Afghan commandos conducted a clearing operation Sept. 3 near Zarghum Shar village in Logar province’s Mohammad Agha district in an attempt to reduce the insurgent footprint in the area.

Although the operation yielded no insurgents or significant weapons, commandos from the 2nd Special Operations Kandak independently planned and executed the mission. Commandos searched for enemy fighters suspected of attacking Afghan and coalition security forces in the district.

“We are here for the continuation of security and defense in this country with one main aim to abolish terrorism,” Brig. Gen. Karim, commander of the Afghan National Army Special Forces Operations Command, said. “We have educated personnel ready to defeat the enemy in any area of Afghanistan and put an end to their threats and attacks and to bring peace to the area.”

Afghan National Security Forces have irreversibly taken the lead for Afghanistan’s security, underscoring the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan’s Tranche 5, Milestone 2013 announcement this summer.

This commando operation proves their capabilities, and is a positive sign of the progress ANSF have made to provide for their country’s security. Such gains will pave the way for other necessities, such as increased government stability and development programs.
