Two Davis-Monthan airmen receive invites for All-Air Force Men's Softball team

DAVIS-MONTHAN AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. - Two airmen here received invites to try out for the All-Air Force men's softball team.

Tech. Sgt. Matthew Lemay, 355th Security Forces Squadron, and Staff Sgt. Steven Lasseson, 355th Maintenance Group, are slated to attend team tryout camp from Aug. 22 through Sept. 13 at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas.

For Lemay, a utility player, this is his third invite. Although his last two weren't successful, he has high hopes for this year's tryout.

"It's an honor to be invited because you are selected from such a large number of Air Force players," said Lemay. "It's also great that I get the support and approval from my leadership to be able to go."

Lasseson, an infielder and pitcher, will be making his first attempt at getting a spot on the team.

"I am completely blown away by being invited," said Lasseson. "That is an honor in its own. I have worked extremely hard to get to this point, and I have plenty of people to thank for their help and support. Without those people, I wouldn't be the player I am today. I feel very fortunate and hope to represent D-M and the Air Force well."

Twenty-six players are selected for the weeklong tryout. The players are then split into two, 13-man teams. Throughout the week, each team will practice separately in the morning and then play double-headers in the afternoon.

After the week is over, 15 players will make the roster.

The team will play in at least two tournaments prior to the Armed Forces Softball Championship that is scheduled Sept. 14-20 at Fort Sill, Okla.
