WARDAK PROVINCE, Afghanistan- Commandos from the 6th Special Operations Kandak (SOK) detained 49 suspected insurgents Aug. 16 in Wardak province.

The 6th SOK launched the operation to disrupt insurgent activity in support of Afghan Local Police (ALP) and Afghan National Police (ANP) operating in the province’s Jalrez district.

Afghan National Security Forces have irreversibly taken the lead for Afghanistan’s security, underscoring the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan’s Tranche 5, Milestone 2013 announcement this summer.

Two local citizens -- one male and one female – sustained minor injuries during the operation. Medics from 6th SOK provided initial care on site, and then transported the wounded individuals to Maiden Shar hospital for further evaluation.

The detainees were taken into custody by local security forces for further questioning.
