RAPID CITY, S.D. - The South Dakota Army National Guard’s Training Center Command received both the National Guard Bureau’s Superior Unit Award and the Eisenhower Trophy at an awards ceremony June 10 on Camp Rapid in recognition of the unit’s outstanding achievements during training year 2012.

The South Dakota Army National Guard’s Training Center Command received both the National Guard Bureau’s Superior Unit Award and the Eisenhower Trophy at an awards ceremony June 10 on Camp Rapid in recognition of the unit’s outstanding achievements during training year 2012.

The Superior Unit Award is presented only to units that meet very high standards in attendance and performance. Among other factors, units must achieve 95 percent attendance for all drills and annual training, 90 percent of personnel must pass the physical fitness test, 95 percent must qualify with their individual assigned weapon and the unit must pass the maintenance portion of an externally administered inspection. The Eisenhower Trophy is presented to the top unit in the state in these same functional areas.

“(Training Center) has worked hard,” said Brig. Gen. Craig Johnson, South Dakota’s assistant adjutant general, Army. “The dedication of each and every Soldier in this unit is necessary to achieve this level of excellence.”
