PORTLAND, Ore. - The Wounded Warrior Regiment will hold a track and field training camp for approximately 30 wounded, ill or injured (WII) Marines and Marine veterans August 13-16 in Portland, Oregon.

Training will take place at both the Nike Training Center and the University of Concordia Throw Center.

The camp is a part of the Wounded Warrior Regiment's Warrior Athlete Reconditioning Program (WAR-P), which provides opportunities for Marines to engage in both physical and cognitive activities outside the traditional therapy setting.

Training sessions include practical application through short and long distance running, swimming, and throwing which builds endurance and develops the skills they learn.

The Marines will have improved their running and throwing skills at the conclusion of camp.

This track and field camp is the second of many sports camps that the WWR has scheduled.

Training camps host athletes with ability levels from novice to elite.

The other sports camps include swimming, cycling, shooting, archery, wheelchair basketball and seated volleyball.

Through support and participation in adaptive sport programs, such as the WAR program, the Wounded Warrior Regiment is able to emphasize the importance of athletics in the recovery, rehabilitation and reintegration process of WII service members.

We invite media representatives to visit and speak with the athletes at:

Nike Training Center on August 16 from 1000-1100
University of Concordia Throw Center from 1500-1600

Media interested in covering the camp should contact Victoria Long, Deputy Public Affairs Officer, Wounded Warrior Regiment at (571) 264-6451 or email victoria.long@usmc.mil.
