PAKTIYA PROVINCE, Afghanistan- Commandos from the 2nd Special Operations Kandak captured a senior insurgent facilitator in Gardez city, Gardez district, Paktiya province, Aug. 8.

The 2nd SOK captured the insurgent while conducting a clearing operation in Gardez city to deny insurgents a safe haven.

Known for transporting suicide bombers, foreign fighters, and improvised explosive devices, the enemy committed illegal activities in Paktiya, Logar, and Kabul provinces.

“As commandos, we are more than willing to go into the districts and clear the areas of the enemy,” said Brig. Gen. Abdul Karim, Afghan National Army Special Operations commander. “We will destroy the enemy, completely remove them, and cleanse the area as if a cancer is entirely removed from the body so we can all hopefully live in a safe and peaceful environment.”

Afghan National Army Special Forces commandos are an elite group that conducts high-risk operations in areas known to be enemy strongholds. These counterinsurgency missions assist national and local police in their efforts to increase security, governance and development.

The 2nd SOK relinquished custody of the insurgent to the National Directorate of Security.
