ALBANY, Ga. - Each quarter, one “squared away” Marine is awarded Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany’s Marine of the Quarter.
This quarter is Lance Cpl. Gregory Perez, administrative specialist, Adjutant Office, MCLB Albany.
After winning this board, he competed against six other Marines in the Marine Corps Installations East board and won the title of Marine of the Quarter.
Perez expressed his enthusiasm for winning these awards and how he was dedicated to ensuring he prepared himself as much as he could before going in front of the boards.
“I studied very hard,” Perez said. “I made flash cards and even participated in mock boards with other Marines to prepare ourselves.”
Perez said his friends, who were enlisting in the service, are what motivated him to enlist.
“My friends were joining the Army and I wanted to be different,” he added. “Ever since I was little, it was either become a cop or become a Marine.”
Perez attended boot camp at Parris Island, S.C., November 2011 and graduated February 2012. He then attended the School of Infantry followed by Personnel Administration School. Perez arrived at MCLB Albany shortly afterward and has been here since.
According to Sgt. Aubrey Wilson, administrative specialist, Adjutant Office, Perez has always been a hard worker and does his very best to get the job done.
“I am very proud of him,” Wilson said. “He has come a long way since his first days here and has grown so much.”
Fellow co-worker, Cpl. Jailyn Dennis, administrative specialist, Adjutant Office, echoed Wilson’s sentiments about Perez.
“Perez is diligent and consistent and studied very hard before going in front of the board,” she said. “I am very proud of his progress and what he has shown he is capable of doing.”
Perez still wishes to become a police officer, whether he is a Marine or civilian. He wishes to work as a Marine Security Guard while enlisted and with the New York Police Department when he gets out of the Corps.
Perez offered some words of wisdom for fellow Marines going in front of boards, he said, “not to give up and to know you can do anything you put your mind to.”
