PARRIS ISLAND, S.C. - Recruits of Kilo Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, descended the 47-foot-tall rappel tower June 25, 2013, on Parris Island, S.C.

Rappelling is a controlled descent of a rope used to help prepare recruits for deployment from helicopters, navigation of difficult terrain and gaining access to buildings during raids. Drill instructors use rappelling training to instill confidence and courage in recruits. Kilo Company is scheduled to graduate Aug. 16, 2013.
