CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. - The Society of American Military Engineers held the eighth annual Camp Pendleton Day event at the Pacific Views Event Center here July 18.

The event helped raise money for the Camp Pendleton Armed Services YMCA and the Challenged Athletes Foundation, while providing current information and business opportunities for local architects, engineers and contractors.

“We are very proud of the fact that we are able to take the majority of the proceeds of the event and actually present donations to a couple of charities that are related to the warfighter and their families,” said Jeff Davis, the Society of American Military Engineers Camp Pendleton organizing chairman.

Along with the donations, the event provides public and private contractors with new information and business opportunities through the military.

The event had panels that discussed or addressed two key topics: energy and sustainability, and emergency preparedness and infrastructure.

“Many of the sponsors and exhibitors are consultants and their goal is to network with other consultants to gain knowledge of what is going on in the industry,” said Sue Pender, the Communications chair for the Society of American Military Engineers.

The three goals of the Camp Pendleton Day event falls in line with the Society of American Military Engineers mission statement.

“The mission is to promote and facilitate engineering support for national security by developing and enhancing relationships and competencies among uniformed services, public- and private-sector engineers and related professionals,” said Pender. “Also, by developing future engineers by outreach and mentoring.”
