VOLK FIELD, Wis. – The 646th Regional Support Group, U.S. Army Reserve, based out of Madison, Wis., will be participating in the Wisconsin National Guard’s Patriot Exercise, July 15-19, 2013, at Volk Field. The exercise will mark the first time since the passing of the National Defense Authorization Act 2012 that the Army Reserve and National Guard will train together for Defense Support to Civil Authorities.

Section 12304a of NDAA 2012 authorizes the Secretary of Defense to order federal Reserve Component forces to active duty in response to a state governor’s request for federal assistance in the event of a natural disaster or emergency. This authorization makes the Army Reserve more relevant to the state of Wisconsin. The event is an excellent opportunity to see, first-hand, the capabilities of Wisconsin Army Reserve logistics units from Appleton, Green Bay, and Madison as well as participating Air and Army National Guard units.

Members of the media are invited to attend the Distinguished Visitor day, July 17. Representatives from Wisconsin Congressional offices, as well as dignitaries from the community and military, are expected to attend. The event is scheduled to start at 8:30 a.m. at the Volk Field Lodging and Conference Center, Bldg. 475. The event will include a tour training events and participating units.
