CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. – Marines and sailors with 1st Marine Logistics Group gathered on the parade deck to bid farewell to their commanding general during a change of command ceremony aboard Camp Pendleton, Calif., July 11, 2013.
During the ceremony’s most solemn moment, the unit’s battle colors were passed from the outgoing commander to the incoming commander. This passing of the colors symbolizes the transfer of authority and responsibility of command from one general officer to another.
Major Gen. Broadmeadow, a native of Pawtucket, R.I., has honorably served as the commanding general since June 2011 and deployed to Afghanistan with the unit in Feb. 2012 for Operation Enduring Freedom. He will continue his service to the Marine Corps as the commanding general of Marine Corps Logistics Command in Albany, Ga.
“I’ve been incredibly fortunate to been at [these Marines’] helm,” said Maj. Gen. Broadmeadow. “[Brig. Gen. Coglianese] has done a great job transforming this base out here. When I found out he was the guy, I honestly knew there was no one better. I’m glad I can pass on the helm to him.”
Brigadier Gen. Coglianese is currently the commanding general of Marine Corps Instillations West.
“It’s absolutely humbling and an honor to be part of this team. I can’t describe it,” said Brig. Gen. Coglianese. “I’m happy to be here. We’re going to give everything we got.”
As the new commander, Brig. Gen. Coglianese will be responsible for accomplishing the 1st MLG’s mission: to provide direct support to the Marine Expeditionary Force, Ground Combat Element and general and logistical support above the capabilities of the supporting elements within the MEF.
