KABUL, Afghanistan - Abdul Wahid, the command sergeant major of the Afghan National Civil Order Police, joined the ANP ranks in November of 2006.
“From the beginning, it was a child’s desire,” said Wahid. “I wanted to follow my father’s footsteps and I have always wanted to serve the community, serve the people, protect the nation and the sovereignty of Afghanistan.”
When ANCOP was first established, there was only one sergeant major position, Wahid said. It now has those positions at the brigade and kandak level. Establishing these positions on the tashkil and getting NCOs and senior enlisted the proper equipment and training is his best personal achievement, he said.
“If you look back to 2001, we had nothing,” Wahid said. “No uniforms, no training, we did not have the professionalism that the ANSF has now. We have had great achievements and progress with the help of the international community’s and the coalition’s support. With this support we are now on our way to being able to sustain ourselves.”
As CSM, Wahid ensures operations go according to the commander’s approved plans, looks after his NCOs and coordinates proper training for the enlisted members of ANCOP.
“In the future, I want to make positions for sergeant majors at the company level,” said Wahid. “Senior enlisted have a big role in the ANSF and it is important to support these positions and get the proper training.”
