New commander of FMTB-West focuses on future

MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. - Navy Capt. Dan Cornwell relieved Navy Capt. Michael Eby, as the commanding officer of Field Medical Training Battalion West during a change of command ceremony at Camp Pendleton, June 7.<br /> <br /> Eby passed on FMTB-West's guidon to Cornwell, during the ceremony, signifying his relinquishing of command and Cornwell's new responsibilities.<br /> <br /> Eby assumed command of FMTB-West, Sept. 13, 2011, and spoke of the pride and confidence he has in the corpsmen during the ceremony.<br /> <br /> "You are inheriting a long legacy of service with the Marine Corps, the proud privilege of carrying that eagle, globe and anchor," Eby said. "I know you are going to graduate here and do great things, save Marines and continue with that legacy." <br /> <br /> In a statement from Brig. Gen. John Simmons, commanding general of Training Command, he thanked Eby and stated his confidence in Cornwell. <br /> <br /> "I would like to take this opportunity to thank you Capt. Eby for an outstanding job while serving as commanding officer of FMTB-West. You have contributed much to the future of our country and Corps, and it is with an abundance of pride that I extend to you my most heartfelt gratitude," Simmons said. "Capt. Cornwell your selection was made due to your dynamic leadership ability and well-earned reputation as an experienced and inspirational leader. I'm confident you are more than prepared to take on this great responsibility, undoubtedly FMTB-West will benefit from your leadership and wealth of operational experience." <br /> <br /> Cornwell left the students with a message of motivation during his speech.<br /> <br /> "I am humbled and honored to be your commanding officer," Cornwell said. "I will ask for you to give your very best every day at everything you do, and I promise I'll do the same."
