Fishing vessel Neahkanie grounded near Whidbey Island, Wash.

SEATTLE — The U.S. Coast Guard and Washington Department of Ecology continue to monitor a fishing vessel that ran aground near Lagoon Point on Whidbey Island, Wash., Tuesday morning.

The 97-foot Neahkahnie has about 9,500 gallons of diesel fuel and oil onboard. There have been no reports of pollution or injuries.

The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Swordfish, an 87-foot Coastal Patrol Boat, is enforcing a 250-yard safety zone around the vessel. Members of Global Diving and Salvage are on scene with 500 feet of oil-spill containment boom.

The vessel’s owners have contracted the tug Rosario and are developing a salvage plan jointly with the Coast Guard and Washington Department of Ecology.
