SAN DIEGO - Commanding Officer of Naval Air Station North Island Naval Operations Support Center Coronado, Capt. Russ Larratt, received the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) Seven Seal Award, April 20, 2013.

This honor was awarded to the NOSC North Island commanding officer in recognition of his enormous support and initiative to members of the Navy Reserve assigned to the NOSC. Larratt was nominated for the award by his employees who are currently serving in the reserves.

"When I found out that I was receiving this award I was pleasantly surprised," said Capt. Larratt. "Really at the end of the day, this award may have my name on it, but it is really for NOSC North Island staff."

The Seven Seals Award is given by ESGR to organizations that support employees of the reserve and guard. The ESGR is a division of the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs.

Sam Giovianazzi, ESGR Employment Transition Coordinator, presented the award and explained why Larratt was selected. The award highlighted his successful efforts to employ NOSC civilian staff members, who are also reservists.

Larratt’s leadership and initiative help support the men and women who serve in the Guard and Reserves. In some cases, he has even taken extra steps to help reservist with employment opportunities after they return from deployments.
