NANGARHAR PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Afghan National Army 1st Special Operations Kandak commandos killed 22 insurgents during a unilateral operation in Bati Kot district, Nangarhar province, April 15.
The commandos conducted the operation to locate a known Taliban commander and disrupt insurgent activity in Gundayn village.
As 1st SOK traveled near the village, more than 20 insurgents ambushed them with small arms and machine gun fire. The commandos returned fire, killing 10 Taliban insurgents.
After 1st SOK arrived at the village to begin their search, insurgents attacked them repeatedly from within the compound. The commandos cleared the compound, killing 12 insurgents and detaining several others.
The National Directorate of Security is currently holding the detainees for further questioning.
No civilian casualties or structural damage were reported during this operation.
