Lithuanian Minister of Defence visits the Chaghcharan Provincial Reconstruction Team


CHAGHCHARAN, Ghor Province, Afghanistan – The Lithuanian Minister of Defence Juozas Olekas has recently visited the Lithuanian Provincial Reconstruction Team in Chaghcharan, where he met Brigadier General Ignazio Gamba, commander of Regional Command West, the Italian-led command for western Afghanistan, and the Deputy Governor of Ghor province Mohammad Amin Tokhs.

Upon arrival, the distinguished guests were welcomed into the base by Colonel Linas Kubilius, commander of the Lithuanian PRT, who presented them an operational update concerning the security and social situation in his area of responsibility and the local development due to the work of Lithuanian PRT, with focus on the transition process.

At the end of the visit, a as a sign of welcome, Dr Mohammad Amin Tokhs presented to the Minister and to the General a "chapan", the typical local cloth.

Currently, approximately 260 Lithuanian soldiers are serving in the ISAF mission in Afghanistan. The majority of them are based in the province of Ghor, while the rest carry out their duties in Herat, Kabul, Kandahar Airfield and Zabul, in the south of Afghanistan.
