KAPISA PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Commandos from the 2nd Special Operations Kandak uncovered a large weapons cache during a clearing operation, organized to protect the people, in Tagab district, Kapisa province, April 3.

Commandos conducted the operation in response to provincial locals who reached out for help after several improvised explosive devices killed men, women, and children in the area.

“Commandos found three gallons of homemade explosives, one thousand PKM rounds, 22kg of opium, seven improvised explosive device pressure plates, and four rocket-propelled grenades,” said a 2nd Special Operations Kandak Logistics Officer. “The commandos removed it and the people are very happy because they are safer.”

Additional district-level complaints revealed that insurgents prevented young Afghan girls from going to school and set violent obstacles to prevent the establishment of clinics and other good opportunities.

“That’s why people don’t like the insurgents. The enemy always tries to make a hard life for the people,” said the SOK officer.

The 2nd SOK officer knows that because of his unit’s efforts, Tagab district is much more secure.

“We are a very strong organization. I believe commandos are the best and we will absolutely make Afghanistan safe.”

Afghan National Army commandos are an elite group whose main purpose is to conduct high-risk missions to disrupt insurgent networks. The commandos conduct clearing operations that enable conditions for improved security, governance, and development in remote villages.
