KANDAHAR AIRFIELD, Afghanistan - Pfc. Sarah Wood, with the Division Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion, Third Infantry Division, is currently serving a tour of duty at Regional Command-South, Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan, as a health care specialist. Wood, a Yuba City, Calif., native, arrived in theatre Aug. 24, 2012.

This is Wood’s first deployment to Afghanistan. Her mission during this tour is supporting 3rd ID in the role one battalion aid station.

“I serve to help others and further myself in my career of the health care profession,” said Woods.

As we begin to celebrate Women’s History Month, which highlights the contributions of women to history, society and culture; Woods had a few words of encouragement for women currently serving their country or those looking to serve.

“One thing I can say is the Army is a great chance to build your future and further yourself in many ways,” said Wood. “I have had many opportunities being in the Army that I couldn’t have received anywhere else. I would say for women wanting to join the Armed forces, you need to realize it’s not just a job, it’s definitely a way of life.”

When Wood returns home she said she is looking forward to seeing her husband and taking leave to go home to California and visit family.
