CANNON AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. - Air Force Special Operations Command prides itself on providing unrivaled care for all of its air commandos. One of the most critical aspects of airmen quality of life falls upon the services provided by the 27th Special Operations Force Support Squadron.
Members of the 27th Special Operations Wing rely on the 27 SOFSS to promote readiness, provide combat support and maintain superior customer service.
Senior Airman Alicia Marsh, 27 SOFSS food service specialist, was a recent Diamond Sharp award recipient for the month of March. Her work ethic and distinguished accomplishments are what earned her the nomination by leadership.
The Pecos Trail Dining Facility at Cannon Air Force Base, N.M., provides an array of eating options to Air Commandos 7 days a week, 365 days a year. The award-winning facility boasts more than 100 menu items at each meal time and prepares more than 19,000 meals per month.
“I had no idea that my supervision was even considering me for this award,” said Marsh. “I was completely caught off guard when I received the congratulatory notification!”
Service specialists also provide a wide range of duties from assisting with personnel relocation to managing fitness centers. These service troops are versed in everything from hotel and restaurant management, to mortuary affairs and search and recovery.
Marsh actively mentors more than a dozen food services airmen at Cannon’s dining facility, focusing on career progression and upgrade training for newer troops. Additionally, Marsh enjoys actively getting involved within the local community, particularly the local Girl Scouts, and includes her daughter in much of her volunteer efforts.
“Volunteering and helping out wherever I can keeps me moving and busy,” Marsh stated. “We’ve all got to keep pushing forward and improving ourselves – if you sit still, you can’t grow. I always try to be a positive role model for my daughter and encourage her to help others.”
“Cannon has been my first base, and honestly, it’s been a blessing,” she continued. “Cannon just grooms Airmen differently from other bases. I’ve been provided with a solid foundation for growth, freedom from distractions and outstanding leadership – I am proud to be part of this wing and call to myself an air commando.”
