Chief of Navy Reserve visits SEAL Team 17

CORONADO, Calif. - Vice Adm. Robin Braun, Chief of Navy Reserve and commander, Navy Reserve Force, visited SEAL Team 17 (ST-17) at Naval Amphibious Base Coronado opn Feb. 2.

During her visit, Vice Adm. Braun had lunch with sailors, toured command spaces, took a tour of San Diego harbor in a rigid hull inflatable boat (RHIB) and conducted an all-hands call.

ST-17 is a unit comprised of active duty and reserve component special warfare operators based in Coronado, Calif.

“The NSW (Naval Special Warfare) Reserve component has played such an important role over the last few years,” said Braun. “For all of you here I have to thank you so much for the dedication that you give and for the commitment that you’ve made.”

The visit to ST-17 was part of Braun’s first tour of local units since becoming chief of Navy Reserve last summer. The all-hands call gave Braun an opportunity to address topics important to Reserve sailors such as possible impact of sequestration, sexual assault, suicide prevention, and the new alcohol breathalyzer practices.

“When you look at what’s happened over the past 12 years, the Navy could not have done what they’ve done without your support,” Braun said in reference to the number of Reserve sailors sent on Individual Augmentee to Iraq and Afghanistan.

Tours and fleet engagement are a way for senior leadership to get feedback from the deckplates and make an assessment of sailors and their current roles within the fleet.
