FORT STEWART, Ga. – The 1st Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment “Battle Boars”, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, welcomed a new battalion commander with a Change of Command ceremony at Cottrell Field, Jan. 24.
The new battalion commander is Lt. Col. Daniel Teeter.
Lt. Col. Teeter is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. Upon graduating in 1994, Lt. Col. Teeter began his military career as an Armor officer.
He is most recently coming from Ft. Irwin, Calif., and a nine month deployment to Afghanistan.
"I am honored and privileged to have the opportunity to command,” Lt. Col. Teeter said. “For every officer out there, this is the pinnacle of their career, this is the thing that you can really shoot for and plan to get to.”
“This is an opportunity to take the 18 plus years of experience that I have and give that to an organization,” Lt. Col. Teeter said.
One of his goals is to build upon the skills that the soldiers of 1-30th IN has learned from their recent deployment, Lt. Col. Teeter said.
“My biggest focus is going to be on Tank and Bradley Gunnery and Squad Fire and Maneuver, so when we bring everyone back together, they have a very strong core at the crew and squad level,” Lt. Col. Teeter said.
Lt. Col. Mike Jason, the former battalion commander, has commanded the Battle Boars since January of 2011.
In the speech that he gave at the change of command, Lt. Col. Jason expressed his pride of the Battle Boar family saying, “I am incredibly proud and humbled to have been counted among you, and I look forward to gathering with you one day as old veterans recounting our great stories.”
With regards to Lt. Col. Teeter, Lt. Col. Jason said “I know the battalion I love is in good hands.”
Lt. Col. Jason ended his speech saying “This is Battle 6, signing off the net,” symbolizing his time as the Battle Boars battalion commander officially coming to an end.
