KABUL, Afghanistan – An Afghan and coalition security force arrested a Taliban leader in Lashkar Gah district, Helmand province, Jan. 26.
The leader facilitated the movement of weapons, ammunition, fighters and equipment into Washer district for use in attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. He also directed the emplacement of improvised explosive devices and targeted Afghan National Army officers throughout Helmand province for assassination.
During the operation, the security force also detained three suspected insurgents.

While conducting a partnered drug interdiction, Afghan and coalition forces discovered a large cache of drugs during a vehicle search in Garm Ser district, Helmand province, Jan. 25. The cache contained approximately 1,653 pounds of dry opium. The Afghan and coalition force seized and destroyed the drugs on site.
An Afghan-led security force, supported by coalition troops, arrested a Taliban facilitator in Khost district, Khost province, Jan. 27. The facilitator acquired and transferred weapons and ammunition to Taliban and Haqqani cells operating in Logar province and sold and delivered machine guns, rockets and improvised explosive devices to insurgents throughout Kabul, Pul-e ‘Alam and Baraki Barak districts.
In Zurmat district, Paktiya province, Jan. 26, an Afghan and coalition security force arrested a Taliban leader who emplaced improvised explosive devices and conducted attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. He also oversaw the movement of suicide bombers in the district.
