LSA ANACONDA, BALAD, Iraq -- A thirty-year veteran of naval service was promoted to captain, U.S. Naval Reserve, during a ceremony in the 13th Corps Support Command operations center, July 1.
Capt. James L. Johnson of Citrus Heights, Calif., was formally piped aboard the command center and according to naval tradition passed through eight ceremonial side boys before being promoted by Brig. Gen. James E. Chambers, commanding general of the 13th COSCOM. Johnson enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1974 serving four years on active duty before attending the University of Wisconsin where he received a Bachelor 's degree in 1992. Johnson was commissioned into the Navy the following year.
Johnson is the officer in charge of the Naval Expeditionary Logistics Support Force Detachment Forward (A) and naval fuels liaison to the 13th COSCOM supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom II here.He is employed by the Intel Corporation of Folsom, Calif.
Johnson has one daughter, Bianca who lives in Redwood City, Calif., his parents, Kay and Bob Johnson reside in Hot Springs, Ark.
