Woodstock-native marches in 57th Presidential Inauguration

WASHINGTON - Capt. Ashley E. Moore, a native of Woodstock, Ga., will march as a member of the Marine Corps’ service staff during the 57th Presidential Inauguration Jan. 21.

Moore, along with four other officers and some of Marine Barracks Washington, D.C.’s prestigious marching and musical units, will march down Pennsylvania Avenue, pass the White House, and arrive at the Capitol before the Inauguration ceremony.

“This is an honor for me to be involved in this ceremony, which is part of an overall huge military tradition,” said Moore. “It’s something I will remember for the rest of my life.”

Moore is no stranger to the marching spotlight, having performed in numerous ceremonies and parades at the Barracks, including their popular Friday Evening and Tuesday Sunset Parades performed throughout the summer, a Barracks tradition that dates back to the early 1900s.

She also serves as the assistant logistics officer for the unit of more than 1,200 Marines and sailors.

Some of Moore’s awards include a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, and Global War on Terrorism Medal.

Marines from the “Oldest Post of the Corps,” Marine Barracks Washington, D.C., will provide extensive ceremonial support to the inauguration. The ceremonial marching companies from the Barracks, Company A and Company B, will march in the inauguration, and the "President’s Own” United States Marine Band will perform at the Capitol.

Military support to the Presidential Inaugural ceremony is part of a grand military tradition, dating back to 1789.
