Yellow Ribbon Event to Assist Re-deploying Service Members, Families

NATIONAL HARBOR, MD – A Yellow Ribbon event is scheduled to be held Jan. 11-13 at the Gaylord National Hotel and Convention Center here.

Hundreds of re-deploying service members from several branches of service and their families are scheduled to attend the event, which is being hosted by the Army Reserve’s 99th Regional Support Command.

Several military and civilian leaders are expected to attend as well, to include:

-Maj. Gen. William D. R. Waff, commanding general of the 99th RSC
-Maj. Gen. Errol R. Schwartz, adjutant general of the District of Columbia National Guard
-Maj. Gen. James N. Stewart, military executive officer, Reserve Forces Policy Board, OSD
-Brig. Gen. Marc H. Sasseville, commander of the 113th Wing, DC Air National Guard
-Capt. Steven P. Knight, Navy senior policy advisor, Reserve Forces Policy Board, OSD
-Janet Salotti, chief, Joint Yellow Ribbon Program at National Guard Bureau
-Paulette M. Mason, chair of Employer Support for the Guard and Reserve in Delaware
-Army Reserve Ambassador Wendall B. McClellan, District of Columbia
-Army Reserve Ambassador Robert Beahm, Maryland

The Yellow Ribbon Program is a Department of Defense-wide effort to promote the well-being of National Guard and Reserve members, their families and communities, by connecting them with resources throughout the deployment cycle.

Through Yellow Ribbon events, service members and loved ones connect with local resources before, during, and after deployments. Reintegration during post-deployment is a critical time for members of the Guard and Reserve, as they often live far from military installations and members of their units.

Since Jan. 28, 2008, more than 1.1 million National Guard and Reserve service members and their families have benefited from the deployment cycle information, resources, programs, services, and referrals offered by the Yellow Ribbon Program
