FORT HOOD, Texas -- Fort Hood officials will demolish an obsolete military radio tower in Topsey, Texas, using explosives on Jan. 9.

The 100-foot tower, built in the 1940s, is located on the T.W. Whatley Jr. estate and the estate administrator requested the removal.

Engineers from the 36th Engineer Brigade will bring down the tower with approximately five pounds of explosives, then cut up and dispose of the tower by recycling all materials through Fort Hood recycling facilities.

The project has been coordinated with Coryell County Law Enforcement and ONCOR Power Company.

There is no danger to the public and adjacent property owners have been informed of the tower removal.
