FORT HOOD, Texas - While many soldiers prepare to celebrate the holidays surrounded by friends and family, others are preparing for deployments to Afghanistan.
Three Reserve Component transportation companies are training with First Army Division West’s 2nd Battalion, 393rd Infantry Regiment of the 120th Infantry Brigade, to conduct convoy resupply and transportation missions during war.
2-393 Infantry plans, resources, and executes these deploying units’ capstone training event, the culminating training exercise.
The CTE is dynamically managed by 2-393rd officers and noncommissioned officers, and is designed to test the deploying units' ability to safely conduct operations within Afghanistan.
Besides conducting many mounted patrols throughout Fort Hood’s training areas, the companies are trained to deal with administrative issues that impact soldiers' lives, including working with translators and host nation forces.
Upon completion, each event is examined in detail during After Action Reviews designed to improve the deploying units’ response and ensure their onward success.
“I’m continually impressed with the sacrifices these soldiers make,” said Command Sgt. Maj. William N. Montgomery, 2-393rd command sergeant major. “Ongoing operations in Afghanistan require the continued arrival of highly-trained transportation companies ready to conduct distribution operations, and our mission is to make sure they are successful.”
While in Afghanistan, the Lexington, Ky.-based U.S. Army Reserve 125th Transportation Company will transport fuel to remote locations while providing convoy security; while the Ohio Army National Guard's 1487th Transportation Company provides tactical ground transportation security in support of Operation Enduring Freedom; and the 1245th Transportation Company of the Oklahoma National Guard transports supplies throughout their area of operation along with providing security for contracted civilians.
