QUANTICO,Va. - The best over the fence home run hitters from the American and National intramural softball league were gathered to participate in the Home Run Derby at the Field of Dreams on Friday. The participants got ten outs to score as many out of the park home run as possible.

Bryan Rietz, the head coach for the American League All-Stars team, was the winner of the derby with eight out of the park home runs. The second place holder, Courtney Boston, scored four home runs, but tied with Lucas Budo and had to go another round.
Boston won, scoring two home runs during the tie breaker that consisted of five outs instead of ten.

“During the game, I don’t really care where the pitch was at,” Boston said to Michael Jordan who pitched during the derby. “For some reason I had a harder time in the derby than I do in the games.”

Boston wasn’t the only participant who seemed to hit more home runs when the pitches were less predictable. Justin Smith, who played on the Nationals All-Stars team was the top home run hitter during the All-Stars game.

Why couldn’t I hit like this during the derby,” shouted Smith after his third home run in the All-Stars game.
Smith’s team ended up winning the All-Stars game with help from his out of the park home runs.
