QUANTICO, Va. - The Provost’s Marshals Office was contacted Oct. 11, requesting working dog support as a result of an alleged bomb threat at Rodney Thompson Middle School in Stafford, Va. The incident is currently under investigation.

“We had one of our dogs on scene,” said Bill Kennedy, Stafford County Sheriff’s Office’s public information officer, “but for an incident like this, we want to be able to check the scene as fast as we can. So the request was put into Quantico.”

Lance Cpl. Alton Davis, Security Battalion dog handler, and his dog, Jessi, a Belgian Malinois, arrived on scene to support in the search.

“If we are right here and easy assessable and can get somewhere in a timely manner to eliminate the threat,” said Davis. “Then that’s what needs to be done for the best of the community.”

The two dogs and their handlers were able to divide the school in half and check it from the top to bottom. This isn’t the first time the two departments have worked alongside each other.

“We get calls like these every few months,” said Davis. “There are only so many explosive K-9 units about in town and when they can’t respond, we are called to support them. It’s easy to work together and get the job done.”

Kennedy said it’s always a pleasure working with the base.
“The handlers and their dogs are always professional,” said Kennedy. “Working together is a huge benefit especially such a timely manner.”
